Tips to Prepare For Hurricane Season

Raleigh isn’t a coastal area but that doesn’t mean we aren’t familiar with hurricane season and the devastation one of the big storms can bring. In 1996 Hurricane Fran caused significant damage and flooding in the this area that took years to recover from.

On the heels of one of the worst storms we’ve seen in Southwest Raleigh for a while this past April it is extrmely important that we plan and prepare for the potential arrival of a storm this Hurricane Season.

Today Raleigh is in the potential storm track of Hurricane Irene. While this doesn’t mean the storm is imminent, it does mean now is our window to prepare for the potential of strong winds, heavy rains, and power loss.

To help you do that we have the following links of resources:

  • DHHS Hurricanes – great information on what to do before the storm, cleaning up, potential dangers, drinking water and more.
  • NOAA Hurricane Preparedness – how to develop a family plan, creating a disaster supply kit, securing your home, having a pet plan and the important question on whether or not to evacuate.

Stay tuned to the weather and have a family plan ready – just in case.
