It’s been a whole year since the sleek new contemporary museum opened its doors in downtown Raleigh and they are ready to celebrate! On May 11, CAM Raleigh will throw yet another amazing party in honor of this anniversary. Did you attend the outstanding grand opening last spring or hear about how fantastic it was? Well, now is your chance to take part in what is sure-to-be another amazing event, Arthouse 2012.
The event’s theme is loosely based around 1970’s street art and celebrates CAM Raleigh’s unique home in the warehouse district. The event will feature live art by local graffiti artists, Victor Knight and Bart Cusick, b-boys and b-girls from Schizophrenic Octopus breakdancing inside and outside the Museum to electro-clash inspired music, creative cocktails, and delicious food, a museum transformation featuring a unique lounge resembling a wild graffiti clad train car, Carrboro-based video artist Adam Graetz is creating video projections for the event, DJs for the evening are Raleigh’s finest and most edgiest: DJ Chico, Logan Sayles, Jon Yu, Edwin, and DJ Nixxed, an airbrush station where downtown Raleigh tattoo and air brush artist Mo will make personalized CAM Raleigh t-shirts and hats to commemorate this major milestone, pop-up theater by actor Richard Butner, and a few other fun surprises along the way.
Arthouse 2012 will also feature a silent auction filled with artworks donated by premier galleries, artists and collectors; with many items from CAM Raleigh’s first year of exhibitions included. You will also get the chance to bid on additional specialty items and packages such as vacations, experiences, food and services, including a $25 wine wall with a chance to win some expensive bottles of wine. The range of auction items has something for everyone with some priced low enough for everyone to get a chance at bidding. The proceeds from the auction all go toward supporting CAM Raleigh programming and exhibitions and helps solidify the museum’s funding for the coming year.
You don’t want to miss out on this party…anyone who has been to a CAM Raleigh event can tell you just how special they can be. The event will be a gathering of friends, curators, architects, designers, dealers, artists, collectors, and patrons of the arts and YOU should be one of them. This new contemporary art museum helps take downtown Raleigh to the next level as a creative and innovative city, so come out and be a part of that exciting growth and support a good cause.
