Join Myrick Howard, President of Preservation North Carolina, as he discusses the architecture of Dorothea Dix Park. Learn about hospital architect A.J. Davis and his contributions to the City of Raleigh and explore the characteristics of buildings representing architectural design from 1856 to the 2000’s. This walking tour will cover about 1.5 miles. Please wear closed toe shoes and dress for the weather. This tour will involve walking on sidewalk, grass, and on uneven surfaces.

Join staff and volunteers from the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, Chapel Hill Astronomical and Observational Society (CHAOS) and Raleigh Astronomy Club (RAC) for a free skywatching program at Dorothea Dix Park! Telescopes will be set up to view stars and the moon. Look up at the night sky as educators guide you through fun observations of stars, planets, moons, nebulae and other celestial objects!

The Bike Fashion Show will celebrate the function and fashion of all types of cycle wear and gear no matter what type of biker you are! From breathable spandex onesies to comfortable commuter clothing, see bikers ride the runway as they style different gear on mountain bikes, road bikes, fold-able/portable bikes, cruiser/Dutch bikes and more!

Local vendors including Raleigh Denim, Lumina Clothing, Oak City Cycling Project, Runologie and more will display their clothing and gear on and off the runway.

Show will start at 7:30. Grab some food, listen to some music, check out our vendors, and claim a seat!

Did you know May is National Bike Month? What better way to celebrate than taking a ride on City of Raleigh greenways, with a stop at Dorothea Dix Park! This low-key ride will start at Eliza Pool Park. We’ll venture out on the Walnut Creek Trail and bike through NC State’s Centennial Campus before taking a break at Dorothea Dix Park. We’ll then continue along the Rocky Branch Trail which will bring us back to Eliza Pool Park.

Food trucks will also be on site offering dinner and desserts. Beer and wine are permitted.
