Elizabeth Silkes, Executive Director of the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience’s free lecture “From Memory to Action” will explore the past, present, and potential future life of Dorothea Dix Park as our community seeks to honor the land’s history.

What Is a Site of Conscience?

A place of memory that confronts both the history of what happened there and its legacies. Sites of Conscience begin by facing all aspects of their history. Then they go a step further, activating the historical perspective with dynamic public dialogue on related issues faced today and what we can do about them

What Is the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience?

The only worldwide network dedicated to transforming places that preserve the past into spaces that promote civic action. The Coalition recognizes that the power of sites of memory is not inherent. It must be harnessed as a deliberate tactic in the service of human rights and citizen engagement.
