Image via City of Raleigh SWSThe holidays have almost passed us by, 12th night is here, and we have the post-holiday recovery to deal with. As part of this recovery phase, we must—or at least seriously consider—taking down our holiday decorations. While the City of Raleigh cannot directly help in this activity, they are organizing a Christmas tree recycling pickup in the near future.  The City of Raleigh Solid Waste Services will start collecting holiday trees along with their normal waste collection services.

It is recommended that all trees be placed at the curb, with all decorations, tinsel, and stands removed.  Please do not place the tree in a bag, otherwise it cannot be recycled. For those of you who do live in apartment complexes and do not have curbside pickup, please contact the property managers and inquire about holiday tree recycling. The City will arrange a one-time pickup of the trees—they only ask that the collection area is in a place that is easily accessible by truck and that all residents have their trees in the central area as there is only one pickup per complex.

Want to know when the City is coming to collect your tree?  Simply log into the Raleigh City services website, www.raleighnc.gov/services. Enter your street address in the “find my service” section on the right side of the page and it should provide you with more details on pickup day.

Thanks for doing your part in recycling holiday trees and making Raleigh a beautiful and sustainable city.
