The Saturday Market is continuing to create ties within the community. We have some great vendors lined up for this week: Tiny Farm Raleigh, Double T Farms, Part & Parcel, Farm 2 Your Table, Pinhole Farms, The Farmery, LoMo Market, Bill’s Lemon Tahini, Nekkid, Sneaky Sweets, Liberty Chicken, Donna Fu’s Chutney’s, Elemental Chocolate and Sweets Raleigh.

Right now Okra is king.  It can be grilled or sautéed.  If grilling leave it whole, toss it in some olive oil, sprinkle with sea salt and place it on the rack.  And if you decide to saute it then cut it into 1/2 inch pieces, add butter, salt and if you’re adventurous add chunks of jalapeño skillet cheese toward the end.

A favorite fruit for this time of the year is Scuppernogs which are green and the bronze to purple Muscadines are a North Carolina grape that are naturally high in polyphenols with are anti-fungals. They are also very high in natural fiber (even more so than oats and bran!), high in essential minerals, and extremely low in fat. They have incredible cancer fighting agents found in the reservatrol found in their colored huss.  They make a great snack to pack in school lunches or take some to work for a quick refreshing burst of juicy flavor.

What is The Saturday Market?

Rebus Works gallery, located next to the Boylan Street Bridge, downtown Raleigh, began The Saturday Market at Rebus Works in April 2011. The market continues weekly through November.  The idea is to combine farmers, crafters, and food and beverage trucks in one location.  Although the idea is not new, it is new to Raleigh.  The Saturday Market offers a unique setting where vendors are set up along a meandering path, past the chicken coop and gardens, right in the heart of downtown Raleigh.

The Saturday Market is located at 301-2 Kinsey Street, (next to the Boylan Street Bridge) Raleigh, NC and is open every Saturday from 9-1pm and will continue through November 17.
