First Friday is a free self-guided tour of downtown’s cutting edge cultural hot spots. Local art galleries, art studios, alternative art venues, and museums stay open late the first Friday of every month to welcome thousands of art-seeking enthusiasts downtown.

Visit the galleries and listen to live music. Delight in a divine culinary experience and take advantage of the First Friday Specials offered by all participating restaurants. Experience art in all of its forms!

 

 

African American Cultural Festival – Sat. & Sun.

The African American Cultural Festival of Raleigh and Wake County is an annual celebration of African American culture as expressed through art, music, food, and community. The festival has become Raleigh’s premiere destination for teaching, sharing, and celebrating the distinctive folk and cultural traditions of African Americans here in North Carolina and from around the world.

 

 

 

Music on the Market – Wed.

The “Music on the Market” series is a community collaboration between Trophy Brewing Company, Indy Week, YMCA of the Triangle, and the Downtown Raleigh Alliance with a focus on local art, music, and vendors bringing vibrancy to the recently renovated Market Plaza. The events are free to attend and a great way to unwind after the work day with live music, entertainment, and more.

 

Sir Walter Raleigh Awards for Community Appearance – Wed.

The Sir Walter Raleigh Awards for Community Appearance recognize outstanding new contributions to the character, environment, and appearance of the City of Raleigh. Since 1983, the Raleigh Appearance Commission has presented more than 200 Sir Walter Raleigh Awards to developers, designers, building owners, community groups, civic clubs, churches, and citizens.
