This Saturday Southwest Raleigh is host to the 2011 Susan G Komen Race for the Cure. The race will begin and finish at Meredith College and will wind through parts of the Stanhope and University Park Neighborhoods in Southwest Raleigh.
This is the 15th Anniversary for this event which began as a small event with 2500 participants who raised over $80,000 has now blossomed to an event with over 25,000 participants who raise over $2 Million annually. This event is recognized as the largest 5K road race in the Carolinas and has spawned a multitude of other events that go to sponsor Uninsured and Under-insured Women’s Health Care as well as to fund national research in the quest to find a cure for Breast Cancer.
Meredith is the site for the beginning and end of the 5K road race – as well as a open Marketplace open to all. Come out and support the participants, check out the marketplace which will be full of demonstrations, free samples and coupons as well as entertainment for all.
Event Organizers advise participants and visitors alike to consider using the free shuttles that will be going from the RBC Center to Meredith – shuttles will be running continuously from 5:30am to 12:30pm.
