Have you heard of the JT Locke Resource Center? What a great educational asset for Southwest Raleigh. They are promoting family preservation, child development, and family self-sufficiency with their programs and activities. And the program is growing and expanding according to a recent article in the The Triangle Tribune.

Mentoring program expands

RALEIGH – The J.T. Locke Resource Center, which serves as a mentoring and tutoring center for underprivileged children, has grown by leaps and bounds.

Several years ago, the center – named after Mission J.T. Locke, the first black dean of agriculture at James E. Shepard High School – could only serve 15 people due to a lack of space. More than 200 people were on a waiting list.

Since then, it has become a 21st Century Learning Center run out of Westover United Methodist Church, which donated the space. It receives funds from the N.C. Department of Public Instruction and a grant from the city.
