There is a new Karate class coming to Carolina Pines Community center!
There will be a free week of instruction to start off the course, consisting of a class on Tuesday the 28th and on Thursday the 30th of June, from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, at the Carolina Pines Community Center main building. There will also be demonstrations of advanced technique and students will learn some basics of Wado-Ryu Karate, a traditional Okinawan style martial arts.
The instructors are bringing Wado-Ryu to the Southwest Raleigh area, each with over 8 years of experience in the discipline, and a teaching record of almost 4 years. The class will consist of basic moving drills, stances, punches, kicks, and combos. As students advance, the emphasis will be on Kata (prearranged sets of movements approximating a fight with multiple opponents). More advanced students will also be introduced to Kumite (one step attack and counter-attack with a partner) and free-sparring.
To anyone who wants to join after the first week, classes will start on July 5th, and are $40 per month. This is a deal compared to almost all the private studios in Raleigh. Classes will be taught on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. There is only room for 12-15 people in the class, and spaces are already filling up.
This class is not just for kids, the instructors have had students in their teens, twenties, thirties, and sixties. The age limit is preferably 16 and up, but kids from 12 to 15 will be accepted on an individual basis. Parents are welcome and encouraged to come practice with their kids. It’s a great way to de-stress from work and get back in shape!
Come out to watch the demonstration on June 28th and 30th. If you want to join in, come dressed in workout clothes. Even if you can’t attend this time around, there will be more opportunities. The introductory class will rotate on a three month schedule, and students who finish the course and want more can move to the advanced class. So look us up again in September for the next free week.
Carolina Pines is located off of Lake Wheeler Road, in between I-40 and Tryon.
