Attendees will accept nominations for the neighborhood recognition award and vote. The SWCAC is looking to create a task force that will provide input to planned Lake Wheeler Road improvements. There will also be a presentation on Raleigh’s Commonplace at 8:00pm.

Our neighborhoods

Last month, we had representatives from Camden Crossings, Caraleigh, Fairway Acres, Pleasant Ridge & Ramsgate, Renaissance Park, Trailwood Hills, Trailwood Springs, and Wheeler Park provide updates. We hope that these and other neighborhoods join us this month to give us an update on what’s happening in their neighborhoods. We found out last month that our communities have a lot in common.

Lake Wheeler Road task force

On my neighborhood Google Group, there has been a lot of conversation about a SeeClickFix issue titled #110164 Illegal Passing on Right on Lake Wheeler Road. The short version is that this is an enforcement issue and there is supposed to be a new turn-lane installed at Caroline Pines and Lake Wheeler Road that would ultimately re-engineer this intersection. The conversation turned into how citizens could have input into the design and other ammenities, such as pedestrian improvements, that are in the planning process for Lake Wheeler Road.

As a result, I spoke with Eric Lamb, Transportation Planning Manager with the City of Raleigh. We’d like to form a special task force that includes concerned citizens, city staff, and extend an invitation to NCDOT to participate. Come to the meeting to find out more and get involved.

Neighborhood Recognition Award

Nominations for this years Neighborhood Recognition Award are due by September 21, 2011. SWCAC discussed this at our last meeting and accepted nominations for the NC Baptist Men, Ray Price Harley Davidson, and JDavis Architects. We will open the floor to additional nominations, discussion, and then vote for this year’s Neighborhood Recognition Award nominee from SWCAC.

Note – the categories for the Neighborhood Recognition Award are:

  • Residential property or privately-owned, small business property
  • Educational institutions or non-profits
  • Community service project
  • Individual within the CAC who has contributed significantly to the well-being of our CAC
  • Grassroots organization or neighborhood group
