The Method neighborhood was founded from land that was subdivided and sold to former slaves in 1870. At that time, the new town stood four miles west of Raleigh and across from what is now the Meredith College campus. Today the neighborhood maintains its historic community status, but is also home to a large number of students and immigrants.
