Please join us at the Pullen Arts Center for the Hillsborough CAC meeting at 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 19, for a special developer panel discussion. The panel will discuss construction standards for rental units (apartments) versus ownership units(condos).
The panel of developer experts will address primarily this issue and answer questions on:
- The differences between design elements for condo projects versus rental unit projects.
- Whether the multifamily residential developments underway are being constructed to a standard that would allow them to be converted from rental units to ownership (condo) units.
If time permits, we may get to these issues as well:
- How do developers measure market demand for rental units to determine whether the new supply they will be adding will “sell” (“rent”).
The object of any apartment building, after all, is to have no vacant units, so how is this “capacity analysis” calculated? A related question is how developers compute gross infrastructure demand for the new units versus built capacity when making choices about
where to build.
Many thanks to these developers who have graciously agreed to participate:
- Jim Zanoni of FMW (West Morgan/Hillsborough project);
- David Brown of JDavis Architects (401 Oberlin project); and
- Brian Nicholson of Crescent Resources (400 Oberlin project)
We hope to see you Thursday, January 19 at the Pullen Arts Center.
