Do you love live classical music? Or maybe you just aren’t sure if it’s for you? Well, the North Carolina Symphony presents a new kind of concert that is perfect for either of those answers – the pub concert! Designed to be a casual and fun way for people to experience the symphony, pub concerts take place in local restaurants and bars and combine exciting live classical performances with food and drink.
Performances by a select small group of North Carolina Symphony musicians are programmed to appeal to a broad range of tastes and styles. The music is accompanied by insights and talk from the musicians, making it a wonderful behind-the-scenes type of event. Long time symphony fans can get to know their favorite musicians in a more intimate performance setting and new comers can check out the music in an unintimidating and fun way.
The next pub concert is coming up on Sunday, February 12, takes place at Humble Pie in downtown Raleigh’s warehouse district and will feature Dvorák’s beloved “American” String Quartet” with insights from host UNC-Chapel Hill’s Music Department’s Christopher Bowen.
Amy Russell, Director of Artistic Programs and Partnerships at the NC Symphony says Bowen will provide “a guided listening experience for the audience before the musicians launch into their performance. It is sure to be an entertaining and informative evening, in the informal and fun atmosphere of Humble Pie. Oh, and the menu will be fabulous, as always!”
Humble Pie will present a tasty 3-course meal to be served prior to the concert (pub concert menus often embrace the theme or style of music being performed). The price of admission to this event is $65 per person and includes the entire meal and concert ticket. Dinner is served at 6pm and concert starts at 8pm. Purchase tickets online or by calling the NC Symphony at (919) 733-2750. These pub concerts often sell out, so get your tickets now if you are interested.
The February 12 pub concert is the first event of the NC Symphony’s Dvorák & America project, a week of cross-disciplinary events and multimedia concerts that focus on Dvorák’s earliest impressions of the United States and the artistic inspiration that led him to bring American-born melodies into the concert hall.
