The North Carolina Symphony (NCS) has just announced it’s 80th Anniversary Season line-up for performances at downtown Raleigh’s Meymandi Concert Hall.  With everything from your classical music favorites (Haydn, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Debussy, Rachmaninoff) to more innovative multimedia programming and provocative new collaborations with highly acclaimed guest artists, the North Carolina Symphony will be bringing Raleigh-ites some amazing live music next season. “As always,” says NCS Music Director Grant Llewellyn, “there is an overall structure to the season, anchored by significant programs with powerful themes running through them. The works we will perform are chosen from the very core of our orchestral catalogue.”

Some highlights from the announcement include a June 7th Gala event to kick off the organization’s celebration of their 80th anniversary, an exploration of Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 7, “Leningrad”, events and concerts honoring the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, Handel’s inspiring “Messiah”, a look at 100 Years of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring as well as world-renown guest conductors like Carlos Kalmar, Mei-Ann Chen and Rossen Milanov.

The Symphony also presents a fun-filled Pops Series each season that tends to include more mainstream works and artists from popular culture and Broadway. That series will be announced soon.
