On Saturday, February 5, 2011, a group of over 20 citizens gathered at The Farmer’s Market Restaurant to get a legislative update from NC House District 38 Representative Deborah Ross. The update included many of the hot topics that you’ve probably read about or heard in the news.
The items included most of the topics covered in our interview with Representaive Ross. Other topics included a proposal that would use trust fund money for job development, a bill concerning charter school funding, and a bill about requiring driver’s licenses to vote.
After the update from Representative Ross, the floor was opened for questions and answers from attendees. A number of people asked questions on a variety of topics including mental health, Dorothea Dix, transit, and the State health plan.
At the end of the Q&A, there was time for folks to give updates from their area. I gave a brief update on the SouthWest CAC. Other citizens gave an update on Wake County Schools.
The next meeting will be scheduled for late March. Representative Ross has been holding regular updates for citizens every 6-8 weeks during sessions for a number of years.
