If you’re heading out to Lake Johnson sometime soon, be aware that part of the paved east loop will be impassable for repairs. Just east of the main parking lot on Avent Ferry and adjacent to the waterfront center, the pedestrian bridge is being replaced with two pipe culverts. As of Monday the site was being prepped and was still passable, but that should be changing soon.
While the area is under renovation a detour route will not be provided and trail users will not be able to complete the east trail loop. With the crisp weather, don’t let a small repair stand in your way of running, walking, or taking in the gorgeous fall scenery at Lake Johnson. The leaves have started to turn colors and the fauna around the lake is squawking for attention (no feeding, photos only please). Patrons may still access the paved trail via the long, wooden boardwalk and at access points further south on Avent Ferry Rd and near the dam on Lake Dam Rd.
Construction at Lake Johnson is expected to be completed on December 5, 2012. For more information, visit the City of Raleigh website.
