For it’s 9th annual exhibition Via Penland, Rebus Works draws from the vast resource of artists associated with North Carolina’s Penland School of Crafts to fill its gallery with fine art and high craft. This year the main exhibition space features a collection of drawings and work about drawing by Penland artists from across disciplines, which was curated by Raleigh artist Janet Link.
Drawing is fundamental to art – It can be used as a planning tool, as a vehicle for study, or as a fully resolved work in it’s own right. In this show one will find traditional figurative and abstract drawing made with charcoal, silverpoint and chalk, fanciful illustration in pen and ink, ceramic objects decorated with drawings, jewelry inspired by line drawings and painting that references mechanical drawing. There will also be work in glass and wood that stretches the boundaries of what we think of as drawing.
Via Penland runs from December 2 through January 19. Meet Janet Link and some of the participating artists at the opening reception on Sunday, December 2 from noon to 5:00. As part of the Boylan Heights ArtWalk and the opening of Via Penland, Rebus Works will be hosting food trucks: American Meltdown, Captain Poncho’s Tacos, and Sarge’s Chef on Wheels. We’ll have plenty of hot liquids to warm your bellies, tons of amazing artwork, and to celebrate our 10th anniversary – artist designed t-shirts for only $10.
Rebus Works is located in the historic Boylan Heights neighborhood, just across the bridge at 301-2 Kinsey Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.
