The City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department held several community meetings about a month ago to engage the citizens and learn about their needs and priorities for the System Plan. The System Plan is a five-part process that is intended to help guide the development of the parks and recreation over the next 20 years. In case you missed one of the community meetings, you can join the online community at www.yourparksyourfuture.com where you can share your ideas, solutions, and collaborate with others.
All citizens are encouraged to get involved in the online conversations. This is where you can take a 15 minute survey about your needs and priorities, post your ideas for parks, programs and greenways, rate the appearance of parks, and interact with others who have submitted ideas. Here are a few of the popular conversations (some of which extend beyond the Creative District):
- Develop the All Children’s Playground for kids of all abilities at Laurel Hills Park
- Add lighting and extend the operating hours at Carolina Pines Dog Park
- Give more attention to existing disc golf courses and develop more disc golf courses
- Add more toddler-friendly parks
- Create a grand park at Dorethea Dix
- Add natural playground to Fallon Park
- Finish Umstead & Neuse River greenway connections
- Add programs that incorporate greenway trails
There is about one week left to provide feedback and collaborate with others in the online format. So, get involved and share your ideas and opinions to help shape the future of Raleigh’s great parks system.
