West Raleigh’s Blue Ridge Road District will soon pulse with Fall activity as area college students return, football season begins and the NC State Fair gets underway. The District, which extends from Western Blvd. to Edwards Mill Road, includes vital points of cultural, economic, and civic interest to the community: the NC State Fairgrounds, the NCSU School of Veterinary Medicine, Carter-Finley Stadium, the PNC Arena, the North Carolina Museum of Art, and the Rex Hospital UNC Healthcare Complex.
While the District’s importance as a primary artery for Raleigh’s economic and cultural lifeblood has always been noted, vision for the area’s development in the past lacked cohesion.
Over the past three years, however, a revised plan has been under development by city planners and property owners, along with efforts to engage more than 200 interested parties in the area’s future development.
A draft of the plan is now available for public review through August 17. Raleigh residents can view the Blue Ridge Road District Study on the City of Raleigh’s website, which outlines the city’s recommendations for the future development of the Blue Ridge Road District.
Residents are also invited and encouraged to share their feedback on the MyRaleigh Ideas! page, accessible through the City of Raleigh’s website.
A summary of the public’s feedback is scheduled to be presented to the Raleigh City Council for review at the Council’s September 4 meeting at 1:00 pm at the Avery C. Upchurch Government Complex.
