Welcome to SPARKcon 2013

Welcome to SPARKcon 2013

If 500 hours of scheduled events over four days highlighting the Triangle’s creative talent and perfect weather can’t draw thousands of people to downtown Raleigh to SPARKcon, I don’t know what else could. OK,let’s not talk about getting a sports complex in downtown Raleigh just yet.

It’s that time of year when SPARKcon takes over downtown Raleigh—and it’s good for business and soooo much fun! The footprint for the event extends beyond Fayetteville Street and goes into the Warehouse District. Don’t miss some great events at CAM Raleigh, Visual Arts Exchange, and other places in the Warehouse District.

It was a great experience for me to help kickoff SPARKcon on Thursday night at ideaSPARK doing a PechaKucha talk at CAM Raleigh. My talk was on The Balance of Creativity: Left Brain vs. Right Brain. And there were a lot of other great talks too.

After bursts of inspiration from PechaKucha, a surprise performance by danceSPARK with a Beetlejuice theme helped to ignite the crowd. (See videos below.)

Friday saw SPARKcon take it up a notch. I had a VIP pass because I donated to the Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign a few weeks ago to help raise money for the event. It scored me front rows seats at the circusSPARK show—and what a great seat it was. (Check out the pics below.)

After the circusSPARK performances and the circusSPARK fashion show, the party proceeded up Fayetteville Street to Martin Street, where the drum circle provided the beat and fire dancers took to the street.

Plan out your SPARKcon Saturday and Sunday with the event schedule listed on the sparkcon.com website. With all the different events and performances happening, there is sure to be swarms of people checking out the creative explosion in downtown Raleigh.

And believe me, with the combination of artSPARK, bizaarSPARK, circusSPARK, comedySPARK, danceSPARK, designSPARK, fashionSPARK, filmSPARK, geekSPARK, ideaSPARK, musicSPARK, poetrySPARK, tastySPARK, and theaterSPARK, there is something for everyone.
