On Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 10:00am to 2:00pm, you can explore the Walnut Creek Greenway during the Festival in Motion. While you explore Raleigh’s “ribbon of green” you can enjoy live music, art, food, and family games. Start the adventure at either the Walnut Creek Wetland Center or the Eliza Pool Park.
Later in the day, head over to Lake Johnson Nature Park from 3:30pm to 5:30pm where the Friends of Lake Johnson will host an open house and “friend-raising” party at the Boathouse. Free refreshments will be served. Enjoy live music & art and learn about the new Nature Center.
Parking and a free shuttle are available at Athens Drive High School. There will be a raffle to benefit Nature Education Programs for Lake Johnson and Walnut Creek at the Lake Johnson Boathouse.
All this is made possible by Friends of Lake Johnson, the Triangle Greenways Council, Partners for Environmental Justice, the City of Raleigh’s Parks and Recreation Department, and many other volunteers. For more information or to volunteer, contact Anne Franklin (919) 829-5851, Benson Kirkman (919) 859-1187, or the City of Raleigh at (919) 831-6640.
