Come one, come all! For one night only, a mysterious carnival makes a stop in Raleigh’s very own warehouse district. Join CAM Raleigh on Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 8:00 p.m. − 12:00 a.m. for Fright at the Museum, the museum’s fall fundraiser and Raleigh’s most thrilling Halloween bash. This year’s event features dancing, drinks, food, sideshow performances, and a costume contest. Make no mistake: this party, hosted by the museum’s young professionals group, CAM/now, is one that you should be scared to miss.
Fire spinners, acrobats, contortionists, sword dancers, magicians, and other circus performers will transform CAM Raleigh into a creepy carnival and transport party-goers to a sideshow spectacular they won’t forget, including live performances by Cirque de Vol, Richard Butner and “Magic by Ernie.”
The bearded lady herself, Ms. Toola Boxx, will preside over the evening’s festivities and award costume contest winners fabulous prizes donated from Synergy Spa, Raleigh Denim, Crabtree Valley Mall, Busy Bee Café, Cantina 18, Kanki, Grand Mariner, Escazu, Helios Café, Krispy Kreme, PBR, and a very special GRAND PRIZE winner will receive a custom hand-drawn piece of art of themselves in their costume done by local artist David Eichenberger (complete with framing from Jerry’s Artarama).
Categories include “Best Carnival/Sideshow Theme” (Grand prize!), “Least Likely to Take Home to Mom,” “Nerds Rule” (Best Geek Related), “Work of Art” (Most Artistic/Creative) and “Smells like Team Spirit” (Best Couple/Crew). Winners will be selected around 10pm. Show off your best get-ups inspired by any of these categories for your chance to win some cool stuff!
While taking part in all the fun, you can snack on small plates of fun circus inspired treats and grab a bite from food trucks including Bagguetaboutit, Klausie’s Pizza, and The Sweet Shop. Enjoy a special signature cocktail from event sponsor, Grand Marnier, alongside other refreshments from PBR, Lone Rider Brewery and Raleigh Wine Shop.
Rumor has it that Foundation will also be back again with their mystery pop-up cocktail laboratory machine. Once you’ve loosened up with our liquid libations, you’ll be ready to dance to tunes from local DJ’s Nixxed, BLNGxBDGT (from Neptune’s Discovery) and Chocolate Rice. Yuxtapongo will add to the ambiance with sideshow-inspired video art installations throughout the museum.
So step right up to a carnival of the bizarre and beautiful at CAM Raleigh this Halloween. Join in the three-ring circus of freaks, oddities and fabulous fun as the museum reveals its wild side.
