Update: The City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department’s annual Fourth of July Fireworks show is rescheduled for Tuesday July 5th at 9:00 PM. All other activites will continue as scheduled for July 4th.
Make plans to be at the State Fairgrounds on Independence Day for the 2011 July 4th Celebration, presented by the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department and the N.C. State Fairgrounds. Monday’s celebration offers free admission and parking.
The City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation staff will host many free activities throughout the Fairgrounds from 5:30 – 9 p.m. Enjoy live music from local artists, sports challenges, crafts, jumbo games, mini-golf obstacle courses and more. Test your talents in a “Minute To Win It” challenge, compete against your friends in the interactive video gaming area, and cheer for young riders on the miniature mountain biking trail.
Food vendors will be on site, and the “Got to be NC Watermelon Cutting,” provided by the NC Watermelon Association, will begin at 5 p.m. near the Expo Center and continue while supplies last. Come out early and enjoy an afternoon at the State Fairgrounds before the grand scale fireworks show at 9:45 p.m.
New this year
The fireworks will begin at the new time of 9:45 p.m. from a new location. Fireworks will now launch from a site off of Trinity Road across from Gate 9 of the Fairgrounds. This means that there will not be any road closures around the Fairgrounds due to the fireworks display. For the best view of the show, be sure to face your lounge chairs and cameras to the north!
All activities will be held rain or shine on Monday, July 4th. In the event of inclement weather, the fireworks will be postponed until July 5th at 9:45 p.m.
No pets, alcohol, or coolers will be allowed. Free parking is available on Fairgrounds property near Gate 9 on Trinity Road and Gate 4 on Youth Center Road. Handicap parking is available inside the Fairgrounds through Gate 9.
