The City of Raleigh is offering free leadership classes for residents of Raleigh. Register today for the Spring 2012 session of Citizens Leadership Academy before classes fill-up. It’s a series of classes sponsored by the City of Raleigh Community Services Department to help develop community leaders and class sizes are limited to 25 people.
I had a great opportunity to present at one of the Citizen Leadership Academy modules earlier this Spring. If you’re involved in your neighborhood or want to be more involved, I highly recommend signing up. It’s a great way to meet new people from other parts of Raleigh and learn some of the skills needed to organize and lead your community.
From the City:
The classes will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursdays starting March 1, at the City of Raleigh Municipal Building, 222 West Hargett Street. The session will consist of three modules with four classes each. Residents can sign up for one, two, or all three modules.
The modules include:
- Module 1, Leadership Development, March 1 to March 22. Participants will learn about personal leadership styles, group dynamics, leading from the middle and crucial conversations.
- Module 2, Communication Dynamics, March 29 to April 26. This module will cover communication styles, outreach, group facilitation and conflict resolution.
- Module 3, Asset-Based Community Development, May 3to May 24. Participants will learn about a system of neighborhood organization that emphasizes the skills and strengths of individuals and communities.
Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of each module. Those who complete all three modules will receive the Academy Leadership Plaque. The Citizens Leadership Academy is offered twice a year in the Spring and Fall. Area residents can complete the three modules over the course of a year.
To encourage discussion and interaction with class leaders, classes are limited to 25 participants. Residents of the City of Raleigh and its extraterritorial jurisdiction receive priority for admission and may attend free of charge. Residents of other areas of Wake County will be admitted on a space-available basis for a fee of $40 per module or $110 for all three modules.
