Lineberry bus stop

Lineberry bus stop

Have you seen the new bus stop on Lineberry Drive? We got some upgrades at the bus stop near Lineberry Drive and Trailwood Drive on CAT route 11 (Avent Ferry route).

I was curious about what was going on and what sparked the enhancement from a single bench to a full on shelter and waiting pad. I was able to get up with Aaron Hair, Planner I with the City of Raleigh to get the details. We put Aaron on the hot seat for a quick interview on these upgrades and other Capital Area Transit (CAT) services:

1) What upgrades are happening to the bus stop near Lineberry Drive and Trailwood Drive on CAT route 11 (Avent Ferry route)?

The City of Raleigh is installing a passenger waiting shelter, trash can, and waiting pad. All facilities are ADA compliant.

2) What kind of ridership is generated from this bus stop?

Ridership numbers fluctuate on a daily basis. This bus stop usually has ridership averaging ~25-30 riders daily.

3) What factors allowed this particular stop to be upgraded?

The Transit Program’s current policy for placement of shelters requires there to be 25 boarding’s at any given stop daily to qualify for a shelter and 10 boarding’s a day to qualify for a bench. Based on the observed passenger totals at this particular stop, this stop was selected for upgraded amenities.

4) Are other stops along this route being looked at for upgrades? If so, which ones?

Currently there are no other stops along this route slated for upgrades. Staff keeps track of ridership trends using Automatic Passenger Counter technology currently installed on our buses. As ridership trends change so do the need for passenger amenities. When a stop meets the current standard, amenities are then planned and installed for that stop.
