The North Carolina Museum of Art is a truly amazing resource that boasts world-class collections and events that connect visitors to a range of art experiences from performances and concerts to classes and kid’s camps.
NCMA’s permanent collections include over 5,000 years of art and artifacts. Exhibits span from ancient Egyptian, Greek, American and Roman art through European Renaissance and late millennial America and African art to international contemporary expressions. In addition, the museum hosts various temporary exhibitions throughout the year. Current photography displays include You and Me, an exploration of personal relationships and Looking South: Photographs by Eudora Welty.
The 40-gallery museum sits atop the 164-acre Museum Park, featuring more than a dozen temporary and permanent art installations. NCMA’s award-winning parkland includes environmentally sustainable landscapes, gardens, and trails. The museum’s amphitheater and a giant movie screen provide outdoor spaces for viewing and engagement.
Events take place throughout the year. Art in Bloom, concerts, performances, and Summer Films are some of the popular calendar items, and visitors can also attend lectures, take classes and workshops, and enjoy social events.
