The Raleigh City Council, on August 2, approved a municipal agreement with North Carolina State University to work together on the design and improvements to the former chancellor’s residence to transform it into the new home of the Gregg Museum of Art and Design.

In 2010, the North Carolina State Board of Trustees agreed to locate the museum at the home, which is adjacent to Pullen Park. The university will fund the design of the project and manage the effort. The City will appoint a project liaison to coordinate with the school on the renovations and ensure consistency with the Pullen Park Master Plan.

The project will involve site improvements that present a cohesive park setting when viewed from both Pullen Road and Hillsborough Street, driveways and pedestrian paths that connect both the museum and park properties, reconfiguration of both the Pullen Arts Center parking area and driveway, and construction of stormwater control devices to accommodate the museum construction and future improvements to north Pullen Park.

A public open house to review the schematic plan will be held Monday, August 22, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Pullen Community Center, 408 Ashe Avenue.
