Almost forty years ago the Carolina Pines Community Center opened and this week the community celebrated its grand re-opening after several months of renovations. The dedication ceremony highlighted the history of the community center, the hard work and dedication throughout the renovations, and the excitement of programs and celebrations yet to come. Funding for the renovations and expansion came from the 2007 bond referendum and the Building Improvement Capital Improvement Program.
Included in the renovations were updates to the entrance, lobby and office areas, a completely renovated gym with AC, kitchen remodel, technology improvements, an addition of an extra large meeting room, and pops of color throughout. This community center has three meetings rooms (med, large, and extra-large), a fitness center where memberships are $15/month, a kitchen, and a large gym with 6 basketball hoops. Summer camps at Carolina Pines are already underway, but they offer many more programs and classes for people of all ages. This will be a great multi-use community center for decades to come!
When visiting the center, don’t forget about the other great amenities in this park: playground, swings, sand volleyball, softball, and an off-leash dog park!
Carolina Pines Community Center is located at 2305 Lake Wheeler Rd. For more information about the project, please visit the City of Raleigh website.
Thumbs up: pop of color, renovated gym, kitchen area, circular entrance area,
Thumbs down: took me quite some time to find the stroller access from the large parking lot to the front entrance (it is not near the stair access)
