The City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation released the September-December Leisure Ledger a few weeks ago. Registration via mail, walk-in, or online begins July 31.  Here are highlights of some of the programs and classes happening in the Creative District:

  • Preschool Tot Time: Sept 3-Dec 19 (Monday, Wednesday) from 10:15am-1pm; Jaycee Community Center; fun, recreational setting for kids and parents to use; ages 1-5; FREE
  • Ballroom Dance: Sept 7 – Dec 21 (Fridays) from 7-9pm; Pullen Community Center; $2; ages 18+
  • Yoga: Sept 13-Oct 18 or Nov 1-Dec 6 (Thursdays) from 6-7:30pm; Lake Johnson Park; ages 18-60; $70
  • Basketball Tournament: Sept 15 from 9am-6pm; Powell Dr Park; one-day outdoor basketball tournament where the first 8 teams to register will be accepted; teams of 8; $80
  • Cooking-Gourmet Crumbs: Oct 3-24 or Nov 7-28 (Wednesdays) from 10-11:30am; Jaycee Community Center; ages 3-5; $36
  • Kids Bingo: Oct 12 from 6:30-7:30pm; Peach Rd Community Center; ages 6-12; FREE
  • Pullen Art Center Fall Arts Fair: Sat, Oct 20 from 10am-5pm; view original artwork from local artists and instructors, learn more about the teaching artists and their upcoming projects; FREE
  • Haunted Trolley: various dates and times in October; departs from Mordecai Historic Park; take a special late night tour of downtown Raleigh’s best hauntings; lasts one hour; $10
  • Canoe/Kayak Lessons: various dates and times; Lake Johnson; private two hour lesson for up to 4 participants to learn basic canoe or kayak skills; $20
  • Dodgeball Tournament: Oct 19 – 20; Method Rd Community Center; a two-day dodgeball tournament where the first 7 teams to register will be accepted; teams of 6-10 players; ages 18+; $60
  • Fall Carnival: Oct 29 from 6:30-8:30pm; Carolina Pines Community Center; a fun setting to let the kids wear their costumes and enjoy games, treats, and prizes; ages 1-10 with accompanying adult; FREE
  • Holiday Card Making: Nov 19 from 6-7:30pm; Jaycee Community Center; a class designed for individuals with development and/or physical disabilities to make holiday cards for friends and family; ages 21+; $5
  • Holiday Express: various dates and times in December; Pullen Park; visit with Santa, enjoy holiday lights, a lighted train ride and more as Pullen Park becomes a wintery wonderland; this event sold out early last year; $8

Whether you’re looking for an art class, a social program, swimming lessons, or a nature program the City of Raleigh offers something for everyone.  Make it a fun fall and winter and sign up for a class or attend a special event!  Remember that registration begins July 31 and several of these classes will fill up soon.
