It’s a year later at Pullen Park and the magic is still there! Just over a year has passed since the amusement areas of Pullen Park reopened following its multi-year/multi-million dollar renovations. The CP Huntington miniature train ride is still hustling around the park, bringing smiles and waves from riders and on-lookers. Children still enjoy choosing their favorite “seat” on the carousel at it prepares to go round and round. The playground areas still fill with excitement and running on chillier days. And, the rolling hills around the pond still create that special ambiance when strolling with a loved one.
Not much has changed since Pullen Park reopened last year. A new ADA ramp was installed on the carousel to allow easier access for patrons. The upper pond is now flowing with water and the newly planted vegetation is growing fuller. A circular garden featuring stone paths and annuals has been installed on the north-eastern side of the park. The biggest change or challenge has been the parking situation; those are small pains for the joys of having such a fun park in the city. There are several parking options during weekday and weekend peak times to help alleviate those problems.
Whether you’re a toddler riding the train or taking your first graceful ride down the slide, a school-age child climbing the ropes, a mom having a picnic with your daughter, an older couple remembering Andy Griffith, or fellow Hokies getting engaged under the gazebo (yes, true story), Pullen Park has something for everyone and I encourage you to discover why it’s special to you!
Don’t forget to purchase your tickets to Pullen Park’s Holiday Express event where the park is transformed into a beautiful Christmas Wonderland.
