Volunteer by planting annuals at a local park

Anytime is a great time to volunteer and the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation department has several ways for you to give some time and, in some cases, a little bit of sweat to make a difference.  Whether you are looking to volunteer as an individual or with your company, church, or civic organization there are lots of ways to get involved with the parks in the Creative District.

Parks Division Opportunities

  • Deadheader at the Rose Garden – become trained on caring for the rose beds at the Rose Garden and volunteer a minimum of two hours/week  through the months of June – October.
  • Some Sweat Equity – assist with various park clean-up and maintenance items such as painting, mulching, landscaping, litter and debris removal, planting annuals and rehabilitating playground equipment.
  • Adopt-a-Park – work with the Parks department to help maintain and enhance a certain park on a quarterly basis for a year

Recreation Division Opportunities

  • ESL Instructor – teach beginner ESL classes to the community for about 2 hours per week; contact James Frawley at [email protected]
  • Aquatics Coach – assist with the intra-city swim league; contact Aquatics at 919-831-6640
  • Mordecai Historic Park volunteer – assist with special events at the park or train to become a Park Docent; contact Park Manager at 919-857-4364
  • Specialized Recreation Volunteer – assist individuals with physical or developmental disabilities at activities or special events such as the Wake County Special Olympics; contact Nikki Speer at 919-831-6640
  • Youth Sports Coach – teach skills, fitness and teamwork to an organized youth sports league such as football, lacrosse, tennis, baseball and more; contact the Athletics Office at [email protected] or 919-831-6836 or download a Coaching Application
