The 2013-14 season at Raleigh Little Theatre (RLT) begins with Yasmina Reza’s Art. Lines are drawn and old friends square off when one purchases a canvas that is essentially a pure white painting. Art will be performed in the Gaddy-Goodwin Teaching Theatre and directed by Jesse R. Gephart.
Prior to the opening of Art, CAM Raleigh will host a preview, including excerpts from the play and a Q & A reception with Jesse R. Gephart and the actors on Wednesday, August 28 at 7pm. Tickets for CAM members are free and cost $5 for the general public, available at the door. Also, the North Carolina Museum of Art Contemporaries will host a special evening on Thursday, September 26, with a French wine tasting by The Wine Feed and the food truck Parlez-Vous Crepe.
This season is dedicated to the memory of Haskell Fitz-Simons, RLT’s artistic director of 30 years, who passed away in May 2013. Mr. Fitz-Simons leaves a legacy of artistic integrity, community engagement and multi-generational education. Mr. Gephart, who grew up taking classes at RLT and participating in the teen summer conservatory, is a prime example. He now directs regularly throughout the Triangle, most recently Theatre in the Park’s production of Fuddy Meers.
Tickets for all events at RLT can be purchased by calling the box office (919)-821-3111, Monday through Friday, 12:00-5:00 pm, or by visiting www.raleighlittletheatre.org. Art runs from September 6-29. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday showings are at 8:00pm; Saturday and Sunday matinees are at 3:00 pm. There is no Saturday matinee on September 7. Tickets are $20 for adults, and $16 for seniors/students.
Raleigh Little Theatre is located at 301 Pogue St., Raleigh, N.C. 27607, adjacent to the Raleigh Rose Garden.
