The Southwest Citizens Advisory Council (SWCAC) will host two special presentations at this months meeting on February 13, 2012 at Peach Road Park Community Center. Attendees at the meeting will be asked to share what is happening in their community and will hear reports from the Raleigh Police Department, Parks and Recreation, and be asked to participate in monthly SWCAC business.

The SWCAC is currently looking to fill positions on our leadership team. We’re looking for individuals who can help take the SWCAC to the next level. If you are interested, come to the meeting to find out more.

This month, the SWCAC will hear from Charles Duncan, Editor at the Raleigh Public Record. The Raleigh Public Record is an online-only news organization reporting and documenting the news of Raleigh. They use traditional pen-and-pad reporting as well as audio and visual storytelling, the Record seeks to fairly and responsibly cover the issues affecting Raleigh’s communities, especially the stories left untold by traditional media organizations.

Additionally, Angela Hicks will provide an update on employment opportunities at Care One. Health care is one of the largest and fastest growing industries in North Carolina, which has produced a demand for certified health care professional. Care One, a licensed proprietary/post-secondary school with the State of North Carolina, has teamed up with youth and adult employment training programs to provide the community with short-term training in CNA I and II, phlebotomy, and numerous other health related careers that can be viewed at careonehealth.org.
