A big fluffy dog? A 16th century ball attendee? A witch or a zombie? What will YOU be this year for Halloween? Well, here’s your chance to make your choice! The Raleigh Little Theatre biennial costume sale will take place on Saturday, October 15th from 10-2 (rain date Sunday, October 16th from 2-6) in the parking lot above the Stephenson Amphitheatre at 301 Pogue Street.
Every year RLT mounts a dozen or so productions; and for every production, there are potentially dozens of costumes (not to mention the generous donations of clothing and accessory items that are received regularly). Where do all these costumes go? To costume heaven to be lovingly displayed for generations to come? Nope. There are lots of secret little rooms and closets throughout the 80 year old facility where costumes can be safely stored, and the theatre rents warehouse space too. With the addition of dozens and dozens of items every few months, you can imagine how these spaces could be bursting at the seams in no time at all. Our
spaces are now exploding at the seams and Vicki and Jenny, our costume designer and associate designer, have been culling like crazy.
This year’s sale will include such classics as Cinderella ball gowns and frock coats, Nana (the big fluffy dog from Peter Pan), Polynesian grass skirts with matching tops and leis, costumes from our production of Animal Farm, most of the build from The Rocky Horror Show (including Rocky’s red leather briefs!), and a host of pre-distressed pieces to fashion your best Zombie. There are formal gowns, wedding gowns, tuxedos with vests and ties, antique gloves, fur coats… The list could go on and on and on… Come on down and check it out. Prices will be very reasonable and all forms of payment are accepted (check, card, CASH)! We hope to see you there!
My husband passed away six years ago and I am in the process of downsizing. He was a graduate of US Merchant Marine Academy in 1967. I have his dress blue and his summer white uniform with shoes and hat. Also have his letter jacket from high school for playing football. His family was stationed in Japan at the time. If you think there may a use for these items in your costume closet, please let me know.
