The Southwest Citizens Advisory Council (SWCAC) will not meet in December 2011. At last months meeting at Renaissance Park, the group decided to take the remainder of the year off and regroup at Peach Road Park on the second Monday in January 2012. Over the next few weeks, the SWCAC leadership would like to collect ideas in our area for the upcoming 2012 City Council budget.

Because we won’t meet before the annual City Council budget hearing, held on the first Tuesday of the year on January 3, 2012, we ask that folks submit any budget concerns so that SWCAC leadership can prepare for the upcoming council meeting. Currently, we plan on requesting that City Council support the following projects with city budget:

  • Crime and safety funding
  • Neighborhood grant funding
  • Lineberry park master planning
  • Tryon Road expansion and bridge replacement (from Lake Wheeler Road to South Wilmington Street)
  • Current and future Lake Wheeler Road improvements
  • Tryon Road median landscape maintenance

Join the SWCAC Google Group and submit your idea. The Google Group was created to share ideas and get updates from the SWCAC membership. Because we only meet monthly, we thought a Google Group would help foster communications between meetings.

We’re also looking to register all neighborhoods in the Southwest area with Community Services. We’ve listing the benefits of being on the Neighborhood Registry. If you have a community watch, a Home Owners Associations (HOA), or other community group, your organization could receive the following benenfits with the Neighborhood Registry:

  • City assistance with neighborhood events, festivals and activities
  • Eligibility to apply for Neighborhood Improvement Matching Funds for neighborhood projects and programs
  • City assistance with neighborhood cleanups
  • Access to City of Raleigh community specialists, who can help you establish membership databases and provide other assistance
  • City assistance with two mailings during an organization’s first year on the Registry
  • Access to City facilities for up to four meetings per year
  • Linkage to Citizens Advisory Councils (CACs), which advise the City Council on issues affecting local communities
