The newsletter will highlight current events, officer activity, crime trends, and crime prevention tips. If you have suggestions for future newsletters, we welcome your input!

About the Southwest District
The Southwest District is commanded by Captain P.A. Niemann, a 25 year veteran of the Raleigh Police Department. During his tenure, he has been assigned to the Administrative Division, Investigative Division, and the Field Operations Division. He has been with the Southwest District since July 20, 2008.

Additionally, there are three community officers in the Southwest District. These officers are assigned to beat areas as follows:

Crime Prevention Tips: Residential Burglaries
Anyone can be the victim of a residential burglary, but you can help prevent them using these tips. Please call 911 immediately if you see anything or anyone suspicious in your neighborhood.
Residential Burglary Prevention Tips
- Make your home look like someone is at home, for example: leave interior lights on; burn exterior lights; install motion lights; leave radio/tv playing; or leave an extra car in the driveway.
- Install quality dead-bolt locks.
- On sliding glass doors, use a wooden dowel, or a track blocker to prevent opening.
- Use alarm decals, beware of dog decals, and/or community watch decals near doors.
- Use creative hiding places in your home for cash and high-ticket items, especially jewelry. Avoid using jewelry boxes. They make things quick and easy for the burglar.
- Get a dog.
- Establish a relationship with your neighbors, so they will keep an eye on your home, especially if going out of town. Have them collect newspapers, mail, etc. Give them contact numbers for reaching you.
- Start a community watch group in your neighborhood.
- Consider installing an alarm system, or video surveillance system.
