First Friday – Oct. 6
First Friday is a free self-guided tour of downtown’s cutting-edge cultural hot spots. Local art galleries, art studios, alternative art venues, and museums stay open late the first Friday of every month to welcome thousands of art-seeking enthusiasts downtown.
Look for the First Friday Flags to easily locate participating venues. A detailed map/guide will be available at each location. Pick up your very own copy for easy event navigation. Visit the galleries and listen to live music. Delight in a divine culinary experience and take advantage of the First Friday Specials offered by all participating restaurants. Experience art in all of its forms!
Sir Walter Smoke Off – Oct. 7
Two dozen BBQ teams are competing for the coveted Sir Walter Smoke-Off Golden Pig Medallion as well as $500 in prize money. Best of all, its raising money for the Oak City Outreach Center and the Partnership to End Homelessness.
Buy your tickets, then bring your picnic blankets and camping chairs. Your Pork Passport will let you sample pork from each of the competitors while supplies last – then cast your vote for the People’s Choice. Enjoy live music from some of Raleigh’s favorite local bands and plenty of cold beer and good wine. This is a family-friendly event with a KidZone set up for the little ones.

Music on Market – Oct. 11
The “Music on Market” series is a community collaboration between Trophy Brewing Company, Indy Week, YMCA of the Triangle, and the Downtown Raleigh Alliance focused on local art, music, and vendors bringing vibrancy to the recently renovated Market Plaza in the heart of Downtown Raleigh. The events are all free to attend and a great way to unwind after the workday with live music, entertainment, and more.
