Donation based yoga class schedule.  These are the two classes with descriptions:

  • 9:30-10:30 Level 1-2: In the spirit of sun salutations, find the stamina within while developing grace and flexibility.
  • 11:00-12:00 All Levels: FUN-damentals of yoga with an emphasis on breathing and healthy alignment. We will move though through a series of poses, connecting movement to breath. Warm the body, calm the mind, and open the heart.

Classes are located in the gallery at Rebus Works.

This week John McDonald will lead the yoga classes.  Having experienced the life benefiting aspects of yoga 15 years ago when he wandered into a class at his neighborhood gym, John jokes that if he had known about yoga as a college linebacker, he wouldn’t ‘have’ to practice yoga now.  As the reconstructed knees and compressed vertebrae now require regular attention, the mindful benefits of yoga help him stay not too worried about them.

Knowing that convenience is key in selecting a new exercise program, 4 years ago John joined his new neighborhood gym at Lifestyle on Six Forks/ Wake Forest.  With little yoga offered, John was encouraged by his mentor, Amelia Reynolds, to become a club yoga instructor through Yoga Fit and Les Mills training.

Practicing Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, exploring the interconnectedness of breath, mind, and movement, John encourages all participants to listen to and honor their body by surrendering through their own boundaries and taking their own practice as far or as gentle as appropriate.”

Barbara Geist-Woerner of Manchurian Crane will be giving chair massages.

Craft vendors this week include

  • Autism Society of NC and Amy Richards of Lizphiz.  Amy will also lead the kids craft this weekend.

Vendor updates are posted weekly on Thursday at The Saturday Market website.

The Saturday Market

Rebus Works gallery, located next to the Boylan Street Bridge, downtown Raleigh, began The Saturday Market at Rebus Works in April.  The market continues weekly through November 19, 2011.  The idea is to combine farmers, crafters, and food and beverage trucks in one location.  Although the idea is not new, it is new to Raleigh.  The Saturday Market offers a unique setting where vendors are set up along a meandering path, past the chicken coop and gardens, right in the heart of downtown Raleigh.

The Market has grown weekly, supported by the local neighborhoods and community.  The Market features locally grown food and handmade products, with a focus on being kid friendly, and community oriented.  The Saturday Market contains a chicken coop and garden area to educate children about sustainability, as well as a kid’s craft area, so parents can shop while their children are artistically stimulated.  The Market also provides 2 classes of donation based yoga each week, providing a draw for folks of all ages, with a positive, local neighborhood feel.

The Saturday Market is located at 301-2 Kinsey Street, (next to the Boylan Street Bridge) Raleigh, NC and is open every Saturday from 9-2pm and will continue through November 19.
