The North Carolina Symphony brings Raleigh music lovers two concerts to celebrate the holidays this month. The Symphony performs “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” on Thursday, December 22 at 7:30pm and “New Year’s in Vienna,” on Saturday, December 31 at 8:00pm. Both concerts take place at downtown Raleigh’s Meymandi Concert Hall at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts.
“‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” brings audiences a program of holiday favorites like “The Little Drummer Boy,” “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” choral selections from The Nutcracker, Handel’s Messiah and Prokofiev’s Winter Bonfire and much more. Performing alongside the orchestra are guests The Capital City Girls Choir and vocalists Brandi Q. Hancock and Jason McKinney.
Also part of the program is WRAL anchor David Crabtree’s reading, accompanied by the orchestra, the holiday classic “The Night Before Christmas.” Audience members will get their own chance to participate with the popular holiday sing-along to popular holiday melodies that we all know and love. Word is there may even be a visit from Santa himself!
Tickets to this December 22 concert range from $33 to $63, with $30 tickets for seniors and $10 tickets students. Family Four-Packs are also available for $100, making it an affordable and memorable family outing for the holiday season.
Then ring in the New Year with a Symphony concert as part of your evening’s plans. “New Year’s in Vienna,” a festive and fun concert program conducted by the ever-charming Music Director Grant Llewellyn and featuring celebrated soprano Sari Gruber. The orchestra will perform works inspired by the Austrian masters with something for everyone including “The Sound of Music” and “My Favorite Things” from Richard Rodgers’s musical classic, plus Gershwin’s “By Strauss” from Vincente Minnelli’s 1936 revue The Show is On and “Salzburg” from Jule Styne’s Bells Are Ringing. Pair the concert with a fantastic meal at any of the many walk-able restaurants near-by for the perfect special holiday evening.
